Around 55 students from two secondary schools visited us at the Mozan site: Arabestan Boys’ School and Sata‘ al-Hussary Girls’ School. Despite the rain, the students were delighted to make the trip and enthusiastic about exploring the archaeological site.
At first, I was reluctant to organize the visit because of the weather conditions, but the students insisted on going ahead with it. They were very enthusiastic, and neither the rain nor the muddy ground prevented them from walking around the site and exploring its different areas. They asked many questions about the people who had lived in this ancient city thousands of years ago and wondered how a mound of such a size had formed.
Some of them also asked about “Abi” and the story associated with him, wondering whether it was true or merely a legend. They were greatly impressed by the palace and asked whether it would be possible to uncover the remaining wing.
At the end of the tour, the students thanked me for not standing in the way of their visit despite the poor weather conditions. I was very happy to see them braving the rain and the weather in order to visit Urkesh and learn about its history and archaeological remains.
